What is Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is an inexpensive natural oil which is used by many people across the globe. In recent times, it has become quite popular among the youth as well as an alternative and adjuvant therapy for the treatment of different ailments.
Today, it is commonly found in cosmetics, topical medicines, and many household products. Tea tree oil is produced by treating the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, a shrub native to Australia, to a process called Distillation, to extract the oil from them.
In earlier times, these leaves were used by the Bunjalung natives to soothe different types of inflamed areas. In the days of 1920, tea tree oil was found to be even more potent than the antiseptic chemical preparations used during those times. Often people confuse Tea Tree Oil with the common tea plant whose leaves are used to prepare black and green tea. Here, the leaves are used to obtain the oil after the distillation process and then used for various purposes.

Benefits of Tea Tree Oil for Hemorrhoids
Tea tree oil is a beneficial oil and efficiently treats the condition of Hemorrhoids in several ways (1). It possesses various properties because of which it is still followed and used as a home remedy to treat Hemorrhoids.
Tea tree oil is responsible for causing loss of intracellular materials if the microbial cell, which leads to an inability to survive in the current environment and loss of respiration. This, in turn, leads to an inability of the microbe to function, and therefore, it dies. Its functions can be best explained in the following manner:
1. An antibacterial agent
It can act as both a bacteria-killing agent and as a suppressor of bacterial growth agents at different concentrations. Tea tree oil exhibits its antibacterial activity by inhibiting the formation of certain vital components inside the bacterial cells due to which the bacterial cells are unable to grow and propagate further.
This, in turn, suppresses the activity of bacterial cells, and also, the spread of the disease is arrested (2) (3).
2. An antifungal agent
It alters the permeability of the fungal cell, thereby leading to difficulty in the survival of the fungal cell. It delays the formation of essential components inside the fungal cell, which leads to inhibition of their growth and multiplication (4).
3. Anti-inflammatory properties
It acts by releasing such components from its chemical structure, which inhibits the release of certain chemical messengers from the body. These chemical messengers are responsible for causing inflammation. By inhibiting their release, inflammatory responses can be suspended (5).
In this manner, Tea tree oil helps in the treatment of Hemorrhoids by its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial activities.
